This artwork was created for an exhibition with a water theme. Starting from colour and texture, the early layers of the painting seemed to feel like peering through sheets of water. It wanted to be called "Deluge" or "Then Came the Rain" so I set out to make it feel more like that..I wanted to give the impression of the power of water rushing and bouncing all over the place, carrying all sorts of debris and reshaping the landscape in its path.

Today the Sun Came Out, Mixed Media Collage by Chris Marshall, Perth WA
It was cold and wet here the other day so I cheered myself up by having fun creating some early layers, pure abstract marks over collage elements and watching paint dry. Bliss.
A couple of days later when I went into the studio the sun had come out - It's amazing what a difference the sun makes to your mood and to your palette! All those yellows just took over! To me the painting now feels sunny and sort of happy, outdoors connecting with nature...

I've always loved nature and am very into saving the planet so this artwork combines the two. I'm recycling my Mum's old kitchen curtains as part of the ground -they turn up all over the place as they make such interesting textures and I didn't want to send them to landfill.

It was only 2 days into Winter and we, being absolute weather wimps, were already hanging out for Spring! I'd been intending to paint over this little canvas but it suddenly got a reprieve...I decided to just tweak it a bit and make it look like ice. Tthis is the result, it's just called "Frozen".

Porongurup Walk, Mixed Media / Collage Painting by Chris Marshall, Perth
This artwork was inspired by a delightful walk we had in the beautiful Porongurup National Park on Christmas Day some time ago. I found it quite mystical being amongst the massive ancient granite domes and the tall trees of the lush forest with the bark they had shed curled up on the ground. You could almost feel the ancient spirits of the landscape.

This artwork was inspired by a fantastic early morning walk in the karri forest. It was a misty morning and the giant trees were shedding their bark. Some of the bark was sort of hanging, almost disembodied in the mist and lots of it was curled up on the ground. It was beautiful but sort of eerie, almost like an enchanted forest.
